Wake County was officially formed in 1771. It was named for the London heiress Margaret Wake, wife of William Tryon, the Royal Governor of the British colony of North Carolina.

The Triangle area actually includes four separate school districts:
Wake, Durham and Orange Counties, and Chapel Hill City Schools.

Highest recorded temperature for Raleigh was 105 in 1952. Coldest was -6 in 1985. I remember that night. I gave out of gas and my dad had to come get me. He was less than thrilled.

Raleigh is about 120 miles from the coast and 130 miles to the mountains.

Michael Jordan played high school basketball in Wilmington before being recruited by Chapel Hill Coach Dean Smith. Michael recently donated $1 million to UNC's School of Social Work.
