Jordan Lake Recreation Area
On summer weekends, thousands of visitors from all over the Triangle head toward Jordan Lake in rural Chatham County. South of RTP and west of Apex, the 14,000-acre lake and recreation area built by the Army Corps of Engineers offers boating, windsurfing, fishing, swimming, picnicking and hiking opportunities. There are several beaches, boat ramps and campgrounds available. Jordan is the summertime home for bald eagles and an observation platform is located on the north end of the lake.
Because it is also a reservoir for neighboring counties, residential development is prohibited from the waterfront. For more information on-line about Jordan Lake, visit the State Parks and Recreation Web site.
